Oh yeah, I must recommend Sonic Foundry's VEGAS 4 as a video editing program. It handles everything from Prelinger easily. Any format and pixel dimension of MPEG, Quicktime, and many others load in no problem, and by toggling off "preserve aspect ratio", the 480X480 files (mentioned above by Steve Nordby) expand nicely to 4:3. The files with only one audio channel can easily be toggled to use that channel only. You can use Vegas to perform almost any advanced editing and processing function with the files available at this archive. The program is PC only, unfortunately for Mac users.

I thought I would confirm how well Vegas 4.0 handles the files here. I just downloaded the Cheerios ad in MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats. Both load (even simultaneously) and play just fine without any modification.

The MPEG2 has a mono track, the MPEG4 is stereo but with the same audio on both tracks of course. Interestingly the MPEG4 image is "brighter" but that might be an artifact of the preview window. I didn't burn it onto a DVD yet but I'll test that out also.
